WINSTON OWEN

January 1, 1938 — March 28, 2012

Winston Byan Owen, 74, of Hilliard, FL, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, March 28. Bryan was the son of the late Winston F. and Clera Powers Owen. Bryan was born in Jacksonville, and grew up in Arlington. He attended Landon High School and married his high school sweetheart, Bobbie Jean Rountree. He and Bobbie moved to Orlando in 1963 and raised two daughters there. Prior to retiring, Bryan worked as a Quality Control Engineer with Dayron Corporation, building simulators for the C117 and the M1A1 Battle Tanks. In 2001, Bryan and Bobbie retired and moved to Hilliard.
He full enjoyed playing his saxophone and played in the orchestra at First Baptist Church of Callahan, with his brother Al. His true loves were his late wife Bobbie, his Grandson Chase, flying, talking about airplanes, talking about flying, listening to other pilots talk about airplanes and flying. He spent many hours with his brothers, Al and Kemmel, at the Hilliard Airpark and was a member of the Hilliard Pilots Association. He loved and adored his grandson, Chase and spent countless hours with his little buddy. They were practically inseparable and went everywhere together, but most precious time was spent at the Airpark together.
He is preceded in death by his wife Bobbie (20050. He is survived by his two daughters, Pam Owen of Hilliard, FL and Kathy (Matt) Zekas of San Diego, CA; a Grandson: Chase Owen of Hilliard, FL; 2-Brothers: Al (Sarah) Owen of Hilliard and Kemmel (Sherron) Owen of Kings Ferry; one Sister: Harriett (Lamar) Morris of North Carolina, many nieces, nephews and countless friends.
Bryan was a very special person who rarely met a stranger. He would give you “the shirt off his back” if you needed it. He had a smile that would go right through you and a personality to match. His heart was as big as the world. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather brother and hero. He will truly be missed.
A Celebration of Bryan’s Life will be held Saturday, March 31 at 4:00 PM in the chapel of Shepard Funeral Home in Folkston, Georgia. Condolences may be expressed by signing the guest registry at www.shepardfh.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Shepard Funeral Home in Folkston, Georgia.
