William H. “Bill” Nolan, 80 of Folkston passed away Sunday, January 26, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida to Ralph Chester and Florie Smith Nolan on January 17, 1934. He retired after 30 years as a Foreman with Georgia DOT. Bill won an award for planting the Black-eyed Susie’s along the sides of the road coming into Folkston. He was a member of Cypress Creek Hunting Club and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also was a member of Camp Pinckney Baptist Church.
Survivors include eight daughters: Cindy M. Dixon (Denise Abbott) of Statesville, N.C.; Susan J. Horne of Folkston, Ga.; Debra D. Woods (Charles) of Lincolnton, N.C.; Kimberly Mobley (Keith) of Waycross, Ga.; Tamra Joy Nolan of Gastonia, N.C.; Karyn Beard (Tim) of Folkston, Georgia; Renee M. Bodrey (Cecil) of Cordele, Ga.; Jodi J. Spurlock (Mark) of Folkston, Ga.; one son: Billy Nolan of Gastonia, N.C.; a twin Brother: Harold Nolan of Seattle, Wa.; one sister: Marie Brogi of Seattle, Wa.; twenty five grandchildren; twenty nine Great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Christopher Spurlock, Michael Horne, Daniel Nolan, Willie Bodrey, Andrew Bodrey and James Beard.
Honorary Pallbearers: Matthew Dixon, Cecil Bodrey, Jr., Jimmy Abbott, Robby Dixon, Patrick Mobley, Tyler J. Abbott, Travis Dixon and Michael Bolch (United States Air force).
The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 28, 2014 from 6 until 8 PM at Shepard Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home Chapel with Rev. Gene McCollough officiating. Interment will follow in Homeland Cemetery.
