Wanda Fisher Gibson, 86, of Folkston, passed away Tuesday, March 8 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was born in Waycross, Georgia to the late Charles Raymond Fisher, Sr. and Mae Mott Fisher. She proudly served her county during WW II in the Women’s Army Corps as an Aircraft Parts Specialist. She was a Jailor, Dispatcher, and Deputy for the Charlton County Sheriff’s Office from 1964-1980. She built the Sunnyland School for Mentally Handicapped Children. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Folkston . She was preceded in death by her husband: Sheriff Ray Gibson and a brother: Charles Raymond Fisher, Jr.
She is survived by her children: JoDee Gibson and Jerry Gibson; Grandchildren: Shannon Roche and Shawn Gibson and a number of Great Grandchildren; and her faithful Caregiver: Denise Nixon.
The family will receive friends Thursday, March 10 at Shepard Funeral Home from 6-8 PM. Funeral Services will be held Friday March 11 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Folkston with Rev. Gene McCullough officiating. Burial will follow in Sardis Cemetery.
