Virgil "Shorty" Crews

Virgil “Shorty” Crews, 81, of Folkston, GA passed away February 18 at Hospice of the Golden Isles.  He was born June 2, 1935 to the late Walter Crews and Verdie Walker Crews.  Shorty was an Army Veteran during the Korean Conflict.  He retired in 1990 from the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge after 20 years of service.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman in his younger days.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife:  Betty Ruth Turner Crews and 7 siblings:  Lottie Redding, Bryant Crews, Louise Bechion, Delvin Crews, Quitman Crews, Monroe Crews and Corine Carter.
He is survived by his two step-children:  Reatha Blount and Jerald Ard (Debbie) of Folkston; three grandchildren:  Anna Tate (David) of Jacksonville, FL, Brandi Young (Casey) Young and Amanda Horne of Folkston, GA; five great-grandchildren:  USMC PFC Wyatt Leugers of Indian Head, MD, Nolen Leugers and Chase Leugers of Jacksonville, FL, Madelyn Young of Folkston, GA and Paisley Horne of Folkston, GA; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 21 at Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home from 6-8 PM.  Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home Wednesday, February 22 at 2:00 AM with Rev. Jody Griffin officiating.  Burial will follow in Traders Hill Cemetery with military honors.
