VERNON HUGGINS

Vernon Vonzo Huggins, 84, a former resident of Eagle Bend Island for 33 years, passed October 16 at the Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring in Jacksonville, Florida. Vernon was of the Methodist Faith, and a US Navy Veteran of WW II, serving on a carrier in the Philippines. He retired from St. Regis Corporation.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years: Cornelia G. Huggins; Son: Larry Vernon Huggins; Daughter: Celeste (Bob) Amato, all of Jacksonville, FL; 1-Granddaughter: Melissa (Jeff) Zmistowski; 3-Great Granddaughters: Kali, Maya, and Tara of Kennesaw, Georgia; 2-Sisters: Winnell Crews and Dorothy Pearce of Folkston, Georgia.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 19 at Shepard Funeral Home beginning at 11:00 AM. Funeral services will begin at 12 Noon in the Shepard Funeral Home Chapel October 19, 2011 with Dr. Gene Hodges, Pastor of First Baptist Church West Jacksonville, officiating. Interment will follow in Pineview Cemetery.
