Verna Murae “Rae” Reddick Nance, 95 of Folkston, passed away February 17, 2010 in Baptist Village, Waycross, Georgia.
She was born in Williston, Florida to Randol Hampton and Verna Lee Reddick on March 22, 1914. She graduated from Cedar Key High School in 1932 and was awarded one of two academic scholarships to Florida State College for Women(now Florida State University). After graduation in 1936, she began her teaching career in Century Florida where she met Rex Nance. They married in August of 1939 and moved to Soperton, Georgia. Mrs. Nance retired from the Charlton County School System after teaching sixth grade for many years. Many of her former students remember her as their favorite teacher, and in 1965 she was chosen as Charlton County Star Teacher. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Folkston until her move in 2002 to Baptist Village, Waycross, Georgia. Mrs. Nance was a diligent student of the Bible and taught Sunday School and Mission Studies for many years.
She is preceded in death by her Husband: J. Rex Nance; and her Parents: Randol Hampton and Verna Lee Reddick.
Mrs. Nance is survived by her Children: Steve (Sondra) Nance of Folkston; Randy (Donna) Nance of Folkston; and Robert “Chip”(Judy) Nance of Jesup, Georgia; a Brother: Dalton Reddick of The Woodlands, Texas; Six Grandchildren: Jeff Benson; of Lebanon, Pa.; Heather (Brian) Huling of Folkston; Miranda (John Ben) Campbell of Senoia, Georgia; Will Nance of Athens, Georgia; Amanda Nance of Atlanta, Georgia; Micah (Melanie) Nance of Macon, Georgia; Four Great-Grandchildren: Hampton and Walker Huling of Folkston; Alaina and Ella Campbell of Senoia, Georgia.
The family will receive friends Friday, February 19 at Shepard Funeral Home from 6-8 PM. Funeral Services will be Saturday, February 20 at 11:00 at the First Baptist Church in Folkston, Georgia with Rev. Randy Jacoby and Rev. Gene McCullough officiating. Pallbearers will be: Will Nance, Micah Nance, Bryan Huling, John Ben Campbell, Hampton Huling and Walker Huling. Honorary Pallbearers will bwww.shepardfh.come The Legal Workers Sunday School Class.
