Oscar Petty, Jr., 77, of Hilliard, passed away September 22 in Jacksonville following an illness. He was born in Folkston, Georgia to the late Eddie Oscar Petty, Sr. and Nellie Mae Byrd Petty. He was a United States Army Veteran. Mr. Petty Retired from Gilman Paper Company after 41 years of service. He worked for the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office for 6 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Boulougne where he served as Deacon.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years: Gloria Johnson Petty; a Daughter: Terri (Charles) Lowther; a Son: Greg Petty; 3-Sisters: Annette (Roger) Trower, Gaynelle Pell, and Cathy (Keith) Daniels; 5-Grandchildren: Kristy (Matt) Gray, Patrick Petty, Ashleigh (Jamie) Johnson, Chad Lowther, and Lindsey Yarbrough; 2-Great Grandchildren: Chase Petty and Natalie Johnson; and his Mother-In-Law: Nadine Johnson.
The family will receive friends Friday, September 24 at the First Baptist Church of Boulougne beginning at 6:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 25 at 3:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Boulougne with Dr. Robert Tibbs officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Pinckney Cemetery in Folkston, GA.
