Melvin Carl Solomon, 64, of Hilliard, passed away quietly at his home surrounded by his family after a short illness, Tuesday, January 25, 2011. He was born in Fernandina Beach, Florida on August 25, 1946 to the late Alpha and Lucille (DuBose) Solomon. He was a lifelong resident of Hilliard, Florida and a member of the Masonic Lodge #208. He retired after 25 years with the Haskell Company. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Boulougne. He was preceded in death by his daughter: Linda Solomon and a Brother: Raymond Solomon.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years: Linder Faye (Nowling) Solomon; 5-Children: Carla Melissa (Chris) Todd, Angela Michelle (Chris) Black, Toni Linder Steele, Kimberly Ruth Lane, and Alpha Morris (Carrie) Solomon; 2-Brothers: Terry Solomon and Tommy Solomon; 8-Grandchildren; Brother-In-Law: Lloyd Nowling; Sisters-In-Law: Ruthie Williams, and Karen (Mickey) Hodges, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends Friday January 28 at Shepard Funeral Home from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 29 at 2:00 PM at the Shepard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Andrew Gillis officiating. Burial will be in Homeland Cemetery.
