Melad Smith, Sr

Melad Smith, Sr. departed this life on Tuesday September 4, 2007. He was born on May 11, 1930 in Camden County to the late Clarence and Mariah Smith. He attended public school in Charlton County. At an early age, he became a member of Jerusalem Holiness Church, where he served as deacon.

He married Rosa Edwards on March 6, 1948. From this union, 15 children were born, in which, two sons, Victor and an infant son, preceded him in death. Those left to cherish his memories are: Dr. Melad Smith, Jr., Jessie (Oria) Smith, Joyce (Malachi) Christopher, William Smith, Janice (Robert) Bolden, Ronnie Smith, Timothy Smith, Maria (Michael) Jones, Robin (Cornelius) Taylor, Jeffery Smith, Reginald (Charlene) Smith, Resa Smith, and Scott Smith; 53-Grandchildren; 33-Great Grandchildren; and a number of Great Great Grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

The family will receive friends Thursday September 6 at Shepard Funeral Home in Folkston from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held Friday September 7 at 12 noon at The House of Love with Bishop Vandell Milton officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
