Martha Morgan

November 10, 1920 — June 2, 2009

Martha  Lee Wainwright Morgan, born November 10, 1920, passed away June 2, 2009 at her residence. She was the oldest daughter of Timothy and Katie Wainwright. Martha was born in Brantley County, but moved to Charlton County as a teenager.  She had many jobs before her marriage, her favorite being school bus driver and cook for the Uptonville School. In November, 1945 she married Colonel Morgan and began a very happy life that lasted 50 years until his death in 1995. Together they ran a very successful business, Morgan's Bait and Tackle. She was always by his side unless she was doing something for one of her daughters, Mary Frances and Marward.  Martha's other great love was her church.  She was the only surviving charter member of Grace Chapel Baptist Church. Her testimony and life were an inspiration to many.
Martha is survived by her daughters, Mary Frances(Bill) Allen and Marward M. Howard; Grandchildren: Matt(Dawn) Allen; Josh(Stacey) Howard, and Holli(Matthew) Parker; great-grandchildren, Laurel and Nate Allen, Cason and Anna Howard and Libby Lee Parker, will all greatly miss her delicious teacakes. She is also survived by a sister Betty Jackson and a brother Lamar Wainwright and sister-in-laws Mary Frances Wainwright, Hester Snellgrove and Lula Thomas and brothers-in-law, Henry Morgan and Devoy Brooks.
The family will receive friends Thursday, June 4, 2009 at the funeral home from 6 until 8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Chapel Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be her Nephews.  Funeral services will be Friday, June 5, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Grace Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Norm Sweeting officiating. Burial will follow in Sardis Cemetery.
