Marsha Roddenbery Johnson “ran” through the gates of heaven on Thursday, September 28, 2023. She was born in Jacksonville, Florida and was raised in Charlton County by her parents the late Thomas Lanier and Myrtle Murray Roddenberry. She attended beauty school and briefly worked as a beautician prior to getting married. She then became a homemaker, raising her three children. As a child she attended Prospect Methodist Church, but in her later years, she transferred her membership to Folkston Methodist Church.
Marsha was the strongest woman her family has ever seen. She had a 41 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis and a 3 year battle with breast cancer. Regardless, she never allowed her spirit to be broken and continued to have a fun-loving and positive attitude. Everyone always said Marsha was a delight to be around.
In addition to her parents, Marsha was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Samantha Newvine, a grandson, Mason Ogletree, and a sister, Yvonne Turner.
She is survived by her children, Darlene (John) Tait, Natalie (Craig) Newvine, and Nathan (Kimi) Johnson; her grandchildren, Brooke (Blake) Johnson, Marla Ogletree, Calvin Newvine, Lucas Johnson, Kalianne Newvine, Haze Johnson, and Matthew Johnson. She had six great-grandchildren: Miley Johnson, Jasper Johnson, Tait Ogletree, Kadience Ogletree, Sophia Johnson, and Henry Johnson. She is also survived by four sisters, Theo Phillips, Connie Gay, Brenda Maifarth, and Susan Taylor.
The family will receive friends at Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home on Monday, October 2, from 6-8 PM. The funeral will be at Folkston Methodist Church on Tuesday, October 3, at 11 AM. Interment will be at Sardis Cemetery.
Pallbearers are her grandsons Calvin Newvine, Lucas Johnson, Haze Johnson, and Blake Johnson, and her nephews Lanier Phillips, Tracy Turner, Drew Taylor, and Brent Taylor. Honorary pallbearers are grandsons Matthew Johnson, Jasper Johnson, Tait Ogletree, Henry Johnson, and nephew Derral Phillips.
Arrangements are under the direction of Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the American Cancer Society.
