Madeline Sikes White, 89, of Folkston, GA went home to be with her Lord on her birthday, Sunday August 25 on St. Simons Island, GA. She had been at home with her daughters under the care of Hospice of the Golden Isles for 12 days until her home going. She was born August 25, 1930 in Pierce County, Georgia to the late Daniel Eustace Sikes and Evie Fowler Sikes. She had been a bookkeeper for a number of local businesses throughout the years and also became known as “The Tupperware Lady” for many years. She was a member of the Folkston United Methodist Church and a Watchcare member of the Frederica Baptist Church on St. Simons Island.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years: George W. White; 3-sisters: Avis Wallace, Geneva Crews and Virginia S. Wade; 2-brothers: Van Sikes and Tom Sikes.
She is survived by her daughters: Denise White and Patricia Wood; a brother: Don Sikes; 2-grandchildren: Grayson (Jennifer) Wood and Taylor (Christian) Turner; 3-great grandchildren: Emily, Brantley and Owen and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be held Friday August 30 at Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home from 6-8 PM. A service in celebration of Madeline’s life will be held Saturday, August 31 at 11:00 AM at the Folkston United Methodist Church with Rev. Whit Chapman, Rev. Paul Reed and Rev. David Unkles officiating. Burial will follow in Sardis Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Frederica Baptist Church Building Fund, 1700 Frederica Road, St. Simons Island, GA 31522 or Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525.
