Lindy Edward James, of Folkston, GA passed away peacefully the morning of January 12, 2018 at his residence following a lengthy illness. Lindy lived his life in such a way that he desired to glorify His Lord and Savior in everything that he did. God, family, and serving in his church are the things that mattered to Lindy the most.
He is the son of the late Charlie Morris James and Mary Ann Cloer Davis. Lindy was born on November 5, 1927 in Brunswick, GA. Lindy, served his country proudly in the United State Army. After his service to his country he moved to Screven, GA. In Screven, is where Lindy met the love of his life. While working on his future father-in-law’s tobacco farm, Lindy met Delene Miller, and on August 6, 1949, Lindy and Delene got married. For the next 68 years, Lindy followed God’s command in Ephesians 5:25, to love your wife as Christ loved the Church. The marriage between Lindy and Delene was built on a Godly foundation and he loved to serve in his home Church. He was ordained as a deacon at Westside Baptist Church in St. Mary’s, GA. He also served as a deacon while attending Browntown Baptist Church and Camp Pinckney Baptist Church.
Lindy loved being a father and grandfather. He is survived by his two daughters, Kim Aldridge and her husband Donnie, and Susan Germani and her husband Gino. His two granddaughters Jennifer Rose and her husband John; and Jessica Souter and her husband Jamie, and his grandson, Taylor Proctor. Lindy also is survived by four great grandchildren; Lindy and Garrison Rose, and Jared Aldridge and J. C. Souter. Lindy and Delene’s legacy also expands to the Nineteen foster children that they helped raise.
He is preceded in death by his two brothers, Delmar Davis and Donnie Davis and a sister, Gloria Aldridge. Lindy is survived by four sisters, Margie McCullum, Debbie Tyre and her husband Hershel; Delores Liles, and Glenda Smith and her husband James. He is survived by sister in laws Marie Sigman and Mailan Hendrix and a brother in-law William Miller. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews that fondly referred to him as Uncle Lindy.
After Lindy and Delene married, Lindy started his career with the railroad in Atlanta, GA. After working in Atlanta for a few years, they moved to southeast GA where they made this area their home for the last 55 years. Lindy retired as a Railroad Engineer for Gilman Paper Company. He was very proud of the years that he served on the railroad.
Lindy, had a love for the outdoors, gardening, the Atlanta Braves and for woodworking. On his time off you could either find him in his shop working on the next project for one of his girls or grandchildren, or you could find him walking the rows of his garden. You would never find a weed in the rows of his potatoes! When his grandson was born his love to hunt and fish was reborn. You would find him spending numerous hours with him hunting and fishing.
