Lewis Wilkes, 80 of Northern Camden County passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2008 in South East Georgia Health Systems, Brunswick, Ga. A native of Jacksonville, Fl., he had been a resident of Camden County for the past 18 years. He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He retired as Train Clerk from the old Train Station in Jacksonville, Fl. He graduated from the Baptist Bible College , Springfield, MO. He worked briefly at White Oak Plantation. Mr. Wilkes loved the Lord and loved to go to church. He was a member of New Testament Baptist Church, Harriett's Bluff. He is survived by his wife: Sheila Wilkes of Waynesville, Ga.; one daughter: Angelia Tate(Larry) of Folkston, Georgia; 7 Grandchildren; 5 Great grandchildren; a sister: Lullene Wilkes of Jacksonville, Fl.; and several Nieces, Nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by two children: a son:L.H. Wilkes, Jr. and a daughter: Gail Carter. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 PM at Shepard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Shepard Funeral Home with Rev. Tracy Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Bickley Cemetery.
