Leland Davis, Jr.

Leland David “Davy” Davis, Jr. 61, of St. George, GA passed away at his home Sunday, August 9, 2020.  He was affectionately known as Georgia Boy by most of his friends.  He was born August 5, 1959 in Louisville, KY and lived most of his life in St. George.  Mr. Davis was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan and enjoyed watching all the games.  He loved cooking on the grill and spending time with his family and friends.  He retired in 2015 after 36 years as a Senior Operating Engineer  from the Northeast Florida State Hospital in Macclenny, Florida.  He served on the Board of Directors for the St. George Cemetery Association.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years:  Janet Davis; a daughter:  Kelly (Ryan Steedley) Davis of Folkston, GA; father:  Joe (Joyce) Welch of St. George, GA; brothers:  Billy Atwood, of St. George, GA, Joel “Jody” Welch of Macclenny, FL; sisters:  Lisa (Larry) Powell, of St. George, GA, Patty (Buddy) McCoy of St. George, GA, Ruth (Mikie) Lee of Macclenny, FL; a sister/cousin:  Charlotte (Bo) Mizell of Jacksonville, FL and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his mother:  Betty Faye Welch and a nephew:  Duane McCoy.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 12 at Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home from 6-8 PM.  Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, August 13 at 11:00 AM at the St. George Cemetery with Rev. Gene Burnsed officiating.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Powell, Larry Powell, Jimmy Thompson, Kurtis Stivender, Darrell Geoghagan and Kevin Doyle.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Ralph “Buddy” Hodges and Adrian Hodges
