Katherine Crews Lloyd, 90, of Folkston, GA passed away Thursday, February 4, 2021 in Waycross, GA. Katherine (Kitty) was born September 13, 1930 in Folkston, GA to the late Andrew Bryant Crews and Kate Simmons Crews. She lived over 20 years in St. Marys, where she was a member of Westside Baptist Church and served as a Southern Baptist Associate Director of Nurseries. In the early 1980s she returned to Folkston with her husband upon his retirement and was a member of First Baptist Church.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by: her beloved husband Lewis W. Lloyd, to whom she was married for 73 years, her son-in-law Gates Elmore, her brothers Walter Britton Crews and Ronald Jackson Lloyd, and her sisters Ethel Nettles and Betty Renshaw.
She is survived by her 6 children Geraldine Peeples (Kerry), Wayne Lewis Lloyd, Kathy Lloyd Altman (Hayward), David Jackson Lloyd (Pam), Bonnie Lloyd Elmore and Larry Eugene Lloyd, 14-grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1-great great grandchild, and her sisters Sue Geiger, Connie Nettles Tyo, Barbara Dale Nettles and Diane Arrow.
Katherine was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, grandmother and sister. She was a faithful Christian serving her church in many ways. She especially loved serving in the nursery and children’s Sunday School. Katherine loved cooking especially for friends and her large family who loved her delicious meals and famous deserts. An avid cake baker, she started a small cottage business selling homemade beautifully decorated cakes for birthdays and other celebrations. Many a bride insisted on a wedding cake baked by Miss Kitty. An avid gardener with her husband, she loved sharing her bounty with family and friends. She especially took pride in her beautiful roses. She was thrilled with her farm in Folkston raising Nubian goats, long hair rabbits, chickens and other farm animals. No matter what, she always made time to go camping with her family and give them love and support during her life. She always found time for cuddling and nurturing her babies. Miss Kitty will be missed by all who knew her.
Graveside funeral services will be held Sunday, February 7, 2021 at 1:00 PM in Homeland Cemetery.
Due to Covid-19, the family would like to ask all attendees to please follow the rules of social distancing and face masks are recommended at the service. Also, anyone that does not feel comfortable with attending the service, the family would like for you to know they understand and covet your prayers.
