JULIAN CREWS

Julian LaVerne Crews, 83, of Homeland, Georgia, passed away March 20 following a lengthy illness. He was born in Charlton County to the late Julian Crews and Laura Lloyd Crews. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He retired from Jerry Hamm Chevrolet as Parts Manager after a number of years of service. He was a Former Recorder, City Councilman and Mayor of Homeland Georgia where he was very active in the Homeland Founder’s Day activities and had written an unpublished book on the Early Churches and Families who settled there. He served on the Charlton County Board of Elections and Registrars and was active in the Charlton County Friends of the Library and the Charlton County Senior Citizens. He was a member of the Folkston Lions Club where he held all offices except “Tail Twister”and later transferred to the Woodbine Lions Club. He was a member of Grace Chapel Baptist Church where he served as Deacon.
He is survived by 4-Sisters: Jean Orrizelle Spence (Robert) Buchanan, Leola Crews, Leona (Chuck) Brisbane, and Anita Turner; an adopted Sister: Betty Honeycutt; 6-Nieces: Iris Turner, Donna Drury, Sherri (Jim) Cox, Pam (David) Prevatt, Gail (Tommy) Faucette, and Lori Avery; a nephew: Greg Spence; 7-Great Nieces: Jessica Drury, Christina (Brian) Blackard, April (Derrick) Conway, Gaylen Cox, Sarah Avery, Megan Prevatt, and Jordan Prevatt; 5-Great Nephews: John (Jenny) Owens, Josh (Tracey) Owens, Brandon Drury, Matthew (Cindy) Drury, and Brian Avery; 2-Great Great Nephews: Dawson Crapse and Jayden Owens; a Great Great Niece: Abbigayle Owens. He was preceded in death by his parents, a niece: Vickie L. Spence; and 2-Brothers-In-Law: Lott Turner and Gordon Spence.
The family will receive friends Friday, March 23 at Shepard Funeral Home from 6-8 Pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 24 at 1:00 PM at Grace Chapel Baptist Church with Dr. Norman Sweeting and Rev. John Boatwright officiating. Burial will follow in Homeland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Chapel Baptist Church Building Fund in honor of Mr. Crews
