Joseph Gowen

Joseph Gregory Gowen, 67 of Folkston died September 19 ,quietly in his home, after a battle with cancer.  He was preceded in death by his father and mother: Clyde and Ann Gowen of Folkston. He is survived by an uncle Mr. Harold Gowen of Folkston and three aunts; Ann(Mrs. Harold), Ruby Gowen of Folkston and Faye Smith of Statesboro, Ga.;  Best friend and companion: Cynthia Fountain of Mt. Vernon, Ga.; longtime friends: Larry Allen, Steve McQueen, Ben Rogers, Darrell Wells, Pete Mizell,  Johnny Gowen, and Joe Weatherford; many cousins and numerous other friends.
He was a lifelong resident of Folkston, graduating from Charlton County High and attending UGA and ABAC before returning home and joining his father in Gowen Plumbing & Electric. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed raising dogs, both hounds and birddogs, and over the years belonged to several hunt clubs: including Skyview, Winokur, Camp Lake, Langfeld and Burnt Fort. He also enjoyed racing and building trucks and G P racing and was a consistent winner at tracks all over  south Georgia.  Gregory was a friend to many and will be missed.
A Memorial service will be held at Pineview Cemetery on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Ray McMillan officiating. The family request donations to the American Cancer Society or to your favorite charity.
