Jimmy Claude Cowart, Sr., 78, of Hilliard, Florida passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023. He was born in Folkston, Georgia on January 5, 1945 to the late Claude Mack Cowart and Beulah Allen Cowart. Jimmy attended the Church of God. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 33 years of service. His favorite pastime was spending time with his grandkids.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister; Barbara Ann Chesser, 3 sisters-in-law; Faye Harris-McLaurin, Mary Alice Manning, and Janice Harris, 5 brothers-in-law; Elmo Harris, Mitchell Harris, Caroll “Hoppy” Manning, W.A. Hodges, and Kenny Smith, and 7 nephews; Elton Harris, Jr., Burnette Harris, Shawn Harris, Danny Chesser, Neal Chesser, Ronnie Chesser, and Steve Chesser.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years; Beatrice Cowart, 4 children; Tammy Cowart, Tina (Bill) Carroll, Jimmy Cowart, Jr., and Latasha (Arliss) Carter, 2 sisters; Zona Jeanette Hodges, and Betty Sue Smith, 2 brothers-in-law; Elton Harris, and Grant Chesser, 3 sisters-in-law; Maxine (Johnny) Everly, Debbie (Dean) Woehrle, and Caroline Harris, 3 granddaughters; Sara Carter, Ansley Carter, and Rylie Carroll, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00pm on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home. A service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Folkston Church of God with Bishop Rob Gillis officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery in Nahunta, Georgia.
