Jerry Evans

Mr. Jerry Watson Evans, 71, of Folkston was welcomed home by his Lord and Savior at 6:00pm on May 27, 2013.  He was born October 1, 1941 in Waycross to Watson & Margaret Evans.  He was preceded in death by his father.  He was a member of the 1959 graduating class of Ware County High School and a graduate of Auburn University.   He served in the United States Air Force, stationed in the Philippines.  He was in management with JC Penney Company before starting his career with the Internal Revenue Service in Jacksonville, Florida, where he retired after 26 years.  He was a member of Folkston United Methodist Church where he was a former Sunday school teacher and choir member.  He was a former Lay Speaker and had filled the pulpit at various churches since the age of 13.   After his retirement, he enjoyed early morning coffee with the McDonald’s Coffee Club.

He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, the former Marie Thomas of Waycross; two children, Holly Evans Johnson (Karl) of Stuttgart, Germany, Traci Evans Carter (Ricky) of Folkston; 3 grandchildren, Thomas Johnson, Callyn & Grayson Carter; 2 brothers, Charles Evans (Aundrea) of Middleburg, Florida & Pence Evans (Debbie) of Waycross and his mother, Margaret Evans of Orange Park, Florida; also his much beloved Chihuahua, Buster Brown.

A memorial service will be held at 3pm Thursday, May 30, at Folkston United Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce Morgan & Rev. Ray McMillan officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Folkston United Methodist Church Youth Mission Fund or the American Red Cross Military Family Services.
