James Merrill Porter Jr. -"JP" "Jimmie", Vietnam veteran, retired crane operator from Bayer-Crop Science, and Life-long resident of Woodbine, GA peacefully passed away on 05/26/2018 at Laconte Medical Center in Sevierville, TN while on vacation with his wife and children.
He was born in Woodbine, GA on August 26, 1947
James is survived by his wife Marion"Patty"Porter, his three children James and Helen Porter, Colby Porter and Steve Miller, and Brian and Angela Porter O’Neal, his 6 grandchildren: Carol and Barry Brown, Antoine and Jessica "Becca" Armstrong, John and Chanda Morton, Brenton and Myra Carter, Ryan "Spencer" and Ashley Porter, and Angel O’Neal, his 15 great grandchildren with 3 more soon to be great grands, his brother Johnny and Barbara Griffin, Sister Jane and Eldron Woolard, and brother Leonard and Phyllis Porter. He is preceded in death by his father James Merrill Porter Sr. and Mother Margaret "Wright" Porter.
Jimmy was a hardworking, loving, loyal, funny, friendly, and compassionate man with many of wise words. He was a great listener, and gave wonderful advice. He was a dedicated husband, daddy, pepa, uncle, and friend! He loved all people, especially his family! He never met a stranger, and has touched many of lives and all of who knew him. He was the rock and foundation to his family. His love overflowed, and will always endure forever.
JP was a man of many hobbies whether it was operating, working on cars, small engines, welding, electrician, and so much more! There was nothing he couldn't do! He had a passion for FORD and NASCAR; he had many of racecars in his younger days, and has spent many of nights working on them! He was a man of many Jokes and tricks! He loved to make people laugh, and loved to sing and dance! He did not mind telling you the truth, even if it hurt.
His inspiring presence and love will deeply be missed by ALL who had the privilege to have known him. He leaves behind a LEGACY!
The family will receive friends Friday, June 1 at Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home in Folkston, GA from 5-7 PM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 2 at 11:00 AM at the Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Colesburg-Thompkins Cemetery in Woodbine, GA.
