James Oliver Milton, 91 of Hilliard passed away January 29, 2011. He was born August 25, 1919 in Hapeville, Georgia to John and Maude Asalee Kidd Milton. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1941, where he lettered in Track. He served his country in the United States Navy (nicknamed Rebel by Chestie Puller). Captain Milton received the following accommodations: American Defense Ribbon, WWII Victory Metal, Asiatic Pacific Theater(5 stars), Purple Heart, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Korean service Ribbon, United nations and the Guadalcanal Campaign Veteran. He also retired from the State of Florida Agriculture Department and was a member of the State of Florida Sheriffs Association.
Survivors include: Four daughters: JoAnn Nuss of Folkston; Dotti Ruis(John) of Hilliard; Amy Milton of Atlanta; Pattie Milton of Albany; Two sons: Mark Milton(LaDawn) of Brandon; John Milton of Jacksonville; Twelve Grandchildren; Twelve Great-grandchildren and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years: Nellie Emma Patterson Milton.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, February 3, 2011 in the Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville, Georgia at 2:00 PM with Military Honors.
