James Hobert Cockerham, 88, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Northeast Florida Community Hospice in Fernandina Beach, FL. He was born March 8, 1928 in Surry County to the late James Dillard Cockerham and Verlie Chappill Cockerham. Mr. Cockerham was a member of First Baptist Church of Kernersville. He was a machinist by trade and retired from Allied Tool Machine Co. Spouse of the late Edith Shaw Cockerham, he is survived by one son, Jerry Cockerham and wife, Myra; three grandchildren, Christopher Cockerham and wife Dana; Jennifer Gregory and husband Caleb; Stephanie Cockerham and fiancé' Christopher Starr; six great-grandchildren, Darci Cockerham, Taryn Wilson, Skylar Loveland, Maci Loveland, Cason Gregory and Cohen Gregory; two nephews, Mike Owens and Keith Owens; one niece Carol Owens Gilley.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel, Kernersville, N.C., with Dr. Steve Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Winston Salem, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Northeast Florida Community Hospice Jane & Bill Miller Center for Caring, 1348 S. 18th St, Medical Office B, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034.
