James Altman

James William Altman, 83 years, 11 months, and 26 days of age, of Folkston, passed away at home, 17 December 2011, following a lengthy illness. James was a lifelong resident of Folkston and charter member of Philadelphia Freewill Baptist Church where he served in many capacities over the years including choir director, Sunday School teacher and as a member of The Master’s Men. Mr. Altman was a past member of the Folkston Lion’s Club and the Folkston Volunteer Fire Department. He was the President of Altman Highway Advertising and Distribution Services, one time owner and operator of Altman Ice Company and Cisco’s Truck Stop and Restaurant. He retired after twenty years of service with the Gilman Paper Company of St. Mary’s, Georgia.
Mr. Altman was the son of the late Reverend Bennie Allen Altman and Mrs. Mattie Lou Mizell Altman of Folkston. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Pearl L. Chesser Altman, daughter of the late Harry Chesser and Neetie Ryder Chesser of Folkston; one son, William Russell Altman [Janice] near Little Rock, AR; two daughters, Neva Janiece Altman Manning [Randy] of Keystone Heights, FL and Patricia Altman Andrews [Nick] of Atlanta, GA; one step-son, Harry Nazworth [Billie] of Branford, FL; 4 step-daughters, Janet Nazworth Shaw [Lewis] of Callahan, FL; Sharon Nazworth Vaughn [A.J.] of Middleburg, FL; Lynn Nazworth Brantley [Marvin] of Folkston; and Geri Nazworth Hodges of Folkston; one sister, Althea Altman Dasher of Garden City, GA; 21 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren (plus one the way); and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Neva Belle Russell Altman; one son, James Allen Altman; and one step-son, Charles Eugene Nazworth; 5 sisters and one brother.
The viewing will be at Philadelphia Freewill Baptist Church, Tuesday, 20 December 2011, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will be at Pineview Cemetery in Folkston.
