Iris Thrift

Iris Prescott Thrift, 82, went home to be with the Lord April 26, 2015.  She was born January 19, 1933 to the late Geneva Wainwright Prescott and William Henry Prescott.  She grew up in the Prescott Settlement in Charlton County and attended Corinth Primitive Baptist Church as a child.
She met and married the love of her life, Robert Louis Thrift, Sr. and they were married 56 years prior to his passing.  She is survived by her four children:  Brenda Thrift Oakie, Robert Louis Thrift, Jr., Ronald Ira Thrift (Sheri) and Stephen Wayne Thrift; 10-Grandchildren:  Michelle Lee (Joey), Amy Thrift, Bobby Oakie (Stephanie), Robert Thrift, III, Timothy Thrift, Tony Thrift, Nick Thrift (Tanya), Eric Johnson (Liz) Brandon Johnson (Melanie), & Adam Ritch; 16-Great Grandchildren.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister:  Irene Brasington; 6-Brothers:  J.W. Prescott, Troy Prescott, Eston Prescott, Theodore Prescott, W.R. Prescott and an infant brother.
She retired from the Nassau County School System as a special needs assistant on the school bus routes.  She has always had a special place in her heart for those with a disability, as her son, Stephen, has Down ’s syndrome.
She accepted Jesus as her personal Savior at the age of 19.  She was a member of Buford Grove Baptist Church for the last 44 years.  Her favorite bible verse was, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13.  She was a gentle, sweet lady and a wonderful Godly example.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 29 at Buford Grove Baptist Church at 11:00 AM with Rev. Curtis Harrington officiating.  Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Tuesday April 28 at Buford Grove Baptist Church from 6-8 PM.
