Irene Grundy Bryant passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025 at the grand age of 96, with family at her side.
She was born in Levenshulme, near Manchester, England to Frank and Doris Grundy. She spent her formative years in Urmston with her dearly loved parents and siblings Alan and Linda, until she married Ralph Bryant, an American, in 1950. The two made their homes throughout England and America, wherever his work in the U.S. Air Force took them. They had four children - Karen, Laura (Dave), Kevin (Bernice), and Michelle. They retired in Indian Harbour Beach, Florida where they had built their final home together. Irene moved to the Terrace at Beverwyck in New York in 2020 to be near her daughter, Laura, who cared for her until her death. She made wonderful friends with the residents and staff at the Terrace and enjoyed her activities with them so very much.
Irene was known for her sense of style, grace, the twinkle in her eye and her infectious giggle - where she could get everyone in the room laughing until they cried. She worked in her younger years as an assistant to a clothing designer and modeled his designs. Later she occasionally worked in retail and managed a boutique. But her primary occupation was making a warm and loving home for her family wherever they happened to live, be it London, Pennsylvania, Maine, Missouri, or Florida. Irene and Ralph greatly enjoyed traveling, especially when they crisscrossed the United States and the Atlantic visiting their children and grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews. Irene and Ralph were wonderful hosts and their home was often the center of our family gatherings. Irene continued to travel to see family and have adventures after Ralph passed in 1997, always missing her beloved, but enjoying seeing her family grow to include 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Irene always enjoyed reading, music, singing, walking, painting, playing the piano, crosswords, and watching Jeopardy. In her later years she bravely learned and came to enjoy skiing, hiking, snorkeling, kayaking and even camping in their camper van. Her primary focus throughout her life was her family, and she was the glue that held all together with her unconditional love and devotion.
Irene was predeceased by her husband, Ralph, and brother, Alan. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Ralph, at the Bryant family cemetery in Folkston, Georgia. She was a treasured gem, deeply loved by many, and will be dearly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a service of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at Shepard Roberson Funeral Home Chapel in Folkston, Georgia on Tuesday, January 28th at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Traders Hill Cemetery.
