Hugh Chancey, Sr

Hugh Dorsey Chancey, Sr., 94, of Folkston, Georgia passed away April 22, 2011. He was born on September 27, 1916 to the late Wade Lee and Nancy Almeta McQuaig Chancey. Mr. Chancey served in the United States Army during World War II and helped with cleanup after the war. He worked with Atlantic Coast Line Railroad for 7 years. He was a farmer and owned Western Auto and Avon Park Gas Service, Avon Park, Florida from 1956-1988.

He is survived by 3 daughters: Sharon Childress of Avon Park, FL; Debra A. Shepherd (Bill) of Folkston, GA and Lara M. Haggard (Chris) of Ringgold, GA; 2 sons: Hugh D. Chancey, Jr., of Folkston, GA and Alan R. “Randy” Chancey of Avon Park, FL; 1 brother: Wade Chancey (Polly) of Folkston, GA; 17 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 11 AM at First Baptist Church in the Fellowship Hall. Contributions may be made to the Hospice of Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525 or Sardis Cemetery in Folkston, GA.
