Hubert Laverne Clark, Sr., 86, of Fernandina Beach, Florida passed away June 14, 2014 at Baptist Village in Waycross, Georgia after an extended illness. He was born in Homeland, Georgia to Louis Grant and Sibbie Wainwright Clark on April 29, 1928. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was in the Reserves for sixteen years. He joined Folkston First Baptist Church at the age of six and has been a member for Eighty years. He was a lifetime member of the BFW, Post Commander of the American Legion in the fifties, and has been a member for sixty years. He served on the Board of Exxon Corporation for ten years, Charter member of the Rotary Club, which he helped establish in Folkston, and was an Auxiliary Member volunteer during the Cuban Crisis. He was a very proud and private person.
He is survived by his wife: Christine Clark of Fernandina Bch., Fl.; two children: daughter: Paula Clark Lavin (John M.) of Athens, Ga.; son: Hubert Laverne Clark, Jr. of Folkston; six grandchildren: Jacob Daniel Thomason, Clark Thomason, Samuel Keith Thomason, Seth McKenzie Thomason, Hubert Laverne Clark, III ”Hugh”, Helen Christine Clark; Several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brothers: Elbert Clark, Louis Grant Clark, Noah Lee Clark, Clyde Clark; Sisters: Gladys Clark Carter, and Mildred Clark Reuter.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Folkston at 10:00 AM with services beginning at 11:00, with Dr. Randy Jacoby officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview Cemetery with Military Honors. The family invites everyone to return to the church following the service lunch.
