George Erwin Newkirk, Sr., 69, of Hilliard, passed away March 19, 2008 at Baptist Medical Center, after an extended illness.
He was born to Elizabeth Ann Federico Newkirk and Erwin Francis Newkirk, the oldest of eight children, on November 1, 1938 in Kingston, New York. While serving his country in the United States Navy, he met and married his wife of 49 years, Jeanelle Murphy. He retired as a truck driver after 35 years and also owned and managed the Auction House in Folkston, Georgia.
He is survived by his wife: Jeanelle Newkirk of Hilliard; two daughters: Darlene Pike(Robert) of Hilliard; Sharon Hoose(Ronnie) of Hilliard; two sons: Butch Newkirk(Carla) of Callahan; James Newkirk(Whitney) of Hilliard; 2 brothers: Donald Newkirk(Sue) of Saugerties, New York;Raymond Newkirk of Alabama; 2 sisters: Beverly Ann Newkirk of Saugerties, New York; Aleta Ruth Anderson(Reid) of Alberta, Canada; 14 Grandchildren; 7 Great-grandchildren and several Nieces, Nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Hiland Newkirk, John Newkirk, and David Newkirk.
The family will receive friends, Friday, March 21, 2008 from 6 until 8 PM at Shepard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 1:00 PM in the Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Hal McIntosh and Rev. Robert Dyal officiating. Burial will follow in Buford Grove Cemetery.
