George Lewis, Sr

George Sandford Lewis, Sr., 62 of Folkston passed away Thursday, July 31, 2008 at Baptist Medical Center, Jacksonville, Florida. A native of Richmond, Virginia, he served his country in the United States Army, 82nd Airborne division. He retired Civil Service as Crane operator for the Department of Defense. He had been a resident of Folkston since 1991. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of Camp Pinckney Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents: Robert Edward Lewis and Anna Beatrice Childress Lewis; a son: Van Malcolm Spicer Survivors: His wife of 24 years: Janice Lewis of Folkston; 2 Sons: George Sandford Lewis, Jr. of Fredricksburg, VA.; Ralph Holler of Tobaccoville, N.C.; 3 Daughters: Christine Holler of Tobaccoville, N.C.; Debra Strachan of Illinois; Sue Gwaltney of Homeland, Georgia; 8 Grandchildren; 1 Great-grandchild; 1 sister: Sarah Oakes of Spotsylvania, VA; 1 Brother: James R. Lewis of Gainsville, Fl.; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 2, 1008 from 10:00 to 12:00 noon at Camp Pinckney Baptist Church with Funeral services beginning at 12:00 noon. Rev. David Beckham will be officiating. Burial will follow in Homeland City Cemetery. Pallbearers: Ricky Crews, Terry Crews, Sammy Dasher, Craig Phillips, Robert Phillips and Layton Thomas. Honorary Pallbearers: Rodney Maggart, Carl Taylor, J.E. Carter, Roy Crabtree and Roger Trower. Condolences may be expressed by signing the guest register at www.shepardfh.com.
