Gene Paul Sisson, 78 of Hilliard passed away February 22, 2014 in St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville. He was born in Columbus, Ohio to the late Chester Garnet Sisson and Dorothy Mildred Sanford Sisson. Mr. Sisson graduated from Haines City High School in 1953 and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a pilot. He retired from the Air Traffic Control Center in Hilliard in 1986 and began teaching controllers until 1996. He was instrumental in founding the Hilliard Airport. He was a 32nd Degree Mason with membership in the Callahan Masonic Lodge F&AM # 32. He was a Past Worshipful Master of the Hilliard Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hilliard and attended the First Baptist Church of Boulougne.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years: Jeanette Sisson; 2-Children: Patti (Joe) Benson, and Shawn Sisson; a Brother: Richard Sisson; 4-Grandchildren: Shane (Rachael) Beasley, Austin Baylee Sisson, Tristin Sisson, and Trinity Sisson; 3-Great Grandchildren: Raely Beasley, Haven Beasley, and Thaddeus Beasley; and a number of Nieces and Nephews and other relatives. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Jackie Carver.
The family will receive friends Thursday, February 27 at Shepard funeral Home from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 28 at 2:00 Pm at the First Baptist Church of Boulougne with Rev. Bobby Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Hilliard, FL.
