FRANCES OLIVER MIZELL HOPKINS
Frances Oliver Mizell Hopkins passed away peacefully at her Folkston home early Friday morning, September 28, 2012. She was 87.
Frances was born in Miami, Fl., on February 8, 1925, to Oliver Clifford Mizell and Jewell Walker Mizell, and was a lifelong resident of Folkston. She was married to the late Colquitt Dyal Hopkins.
She was a graduate of Charlton County High School and attended Valdosta State College.
Frances was member of Folkston United Methodist Church and served as President of the Woman’s Club in Folkston. She was also member of, or closely involved with, the Charlton County Historical Society, Methodist Children’s Home, St. Labre Indian School, Wounded Warrior Project, and Daughters of the American Revolution. Her love for travel and foreign culture took her to many countries around the world.
She is survived by her sister Jewell Mizell Hopkins Kopp of St. Simons Island, Ga; her brother William Clifford Mizell of Folkston and Dublin, Ga; her two daughters, Kay Hopkins Rhoden (Berry) of Melrose, Fl., and Connie Hopkins Spivey of Melbourne, Fl.; eight grandchildren, Herbert Thomas Taylor III(Ashlee), Nicholas Hopkins Taylor, Miale Mizell Spivey, Heather Taylor Morgan (Windell), Meagan Kathallen Taylor, Trey Rhoden (Eleina), Summer Rhoden, and Brittany Breanne Spivey. She is also survived by 15 great grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Colquitt Jacob Taylor (Buck) and Christopher Ryan Kohler.
A funeral service will be held Monday, October 1, 2012, at 1:30 at the Chapel at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, Fl., and will be officiated by the Rev. Gene McCollough of Folkston.
