Esther Crumbley

October 3, 1928 — April 22, 2014

Esther Helen Kendrick Crumbley departed to meet her Savior at her appointed time early morning April 22, 2014.  Esther was born October 3, 1928 in Okeechobee, Florida to the late James Arthur and Corrine Burney Kendrick.  Esther and her twin Estelle were born premature in the terrible 1928 hurricane that devastated the Everglades region, surviving by God’s grace.  Esther was raised on a farm in Racepond, GA and educated in Folkston, graduating valedictorian of her class at Charlton County high School.
She went on to attend Berry College as well as Georgia Southern College, eventually earning her BS and Masters in mathematics education.  Esther taught in the Camden County School System and was probably best known for her years at Camden county High School.  Esther had a very generous nature, particularly with challenged students.  She believed every child was capable of learning.
Ester was also honored to serve as a St. Mary’s City Councilwoman from 1979-1986 and as Mayor Pro Tem from 1981-1986.  She belonged to numerous professional and civic organizations, but her most treasured membership was in the family of Christian Believers.  Esther raised her family at Westside Baptist Church in St. Mary’s, and in her later years, found comfort at both Racepond Church of God with Pastor Lyn Graham and Golden Isles Baptist Church with Pastor Sammy Chancey.
Esther’s greatest accomplishment was her marriage on October 24, 1949 to Chandler Jackson Crumbley which lasted until his passing in 1996.  Now, they are together again.  Esther leaves behind her adoring children:  Pamela Esther Conner (Tom), Chandler Anthony Crumbley, and William Jackson Crumbley (Kimi); 7-Grandchildren:  Kimberly and Kelly Conner, Jordan (Misti) and Justin (Casie) Crumbley and Shannon (John L.) Thompson, Jennie (Jason) Raby and Jamie (Daniel) Iammarino; 8-Great Grandchildren:  Ace Crumbley, Emma and Addison Crumbley, Chandler and Skylar Thompson, Jordan Bell and Jackson Raby and Isabella Iammarino; numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly and special lifelong friends from her college days:  Ouida and Molly.
Esther’s family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers and assistance.  We especially thank Sterling EMT, the staff, nurses, and doctors of Southeast Georgia health System-Brunswick Campus Emergency Room, SICU and 4th Floor who tenderly cared for our mother.
Esther’s Celebration of Life will be Saturday, April 26 at 11:00 AM at Racepond Church of God, With Pastor Lyn Graham officiating.  The family will receive friends Friday, April 25 at Shepard Funeral Home in Folkston, GA from 6-9 PM.  Pallbearers will be Chandler Crumbley, William Crumbley, Jordan Crumbley, Justin Crumbley, Jason Raby and Daniel Iammarino.  Honorary Pallbearers are the sweet ladies who were always so gracious and kind toward our Granny at Golden Isles Baptist Church.  Burial will follow at Racepond Community Cemetery behind Sand Hill Baptist Church
Condolences may be expressed by signing the guest registry at www.shepardfh.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of Shepard Funeral Home in Folkston, GA.
