Emmett David McDaniel, 82, of Folkston, Georgia, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family. David was born June 21, 1940, in Talbot County, Georgia, to the late George Lamar and Mary Louise Milner McDaniel. He graduated from Talbot County High School where he served as Senior Class President and was voted “Friendliest” in his senior class. Following graduation, he attended Southern Tech in Marietta, Georgia, where he received his Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. In 1964, he was drafted into the United States Army where he received the Army Commendation Medal for his combat service in The Republic of Vietnam.
Following his military service, he worked with Georgia Power. It was while working with Georgia Power in Glynn County, Georgia, that he met and married Frances Hazel Stapleton, his wife of 54 years. David was dedicated to his engineering career, working with Westinghouse, and Reynolds, Smith and Hills Engineering Firm in addition to Georgia Power.
He was baptized in 1951 in the creek behind Upatoi Primitive Baptist Church in Talbot County O’Neal’s District. He later moved his membership to Folkston Methodist Church where he enjoyed being part of the Men’s Bible Class and serving on the Board of Trustees.
David was devoted to his family, church, work and his many home projects.
In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by his sisters, Joanne McDaniel Lumpkin and her husband, Hugh, and Hilda McDaniel Kersey, and her husband, Cecil R., a nephew, Brett Daniel Kersey, a sister-in-law, Betty McDaniel, and his father and mother-in-law, Pearce and Hazel Stapleton.
He is survived by his wife, Frances, his children, Emmett David “Dave” McDaniel, Jr. and Dixie McDaniel de Andrade and her husband, Eduardo; 4-grandchildren, Reagan Ann McDaniel, and Riley Catherine McDaniel, Lucas Stapleton Andrade and Gabriel Pearce Andrade; brothers, William Ross McDaniel, George Michael McDaniel and his wife, Connie, sister-in-law, Rosemary Stapleton Kriner and her husband, Ken and many nieces and nephews who he loved.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at 11:30 am, in Pineview Cemetery. Reverend Robby Paulk will officiate.
