With profound sadness we announce the passing of Elizabeth Ruth Compton Gill, our loving and devoted mother , grandmother and friend to all whose lives she touched, on a Sunday afternoon October 18, 2020.
Elizabeth lived a full life as a wonderful mother, homemaker, and Bell South retiree. She treasured her children first and foremost, She loved her role as Nana.
She loved her family and instilled in them strong values that I know we shall never forget. She embraced every moment with each of us through our lives, and unity was very important to her. We love her so much. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Born in Jacksonville Florida and raised in Palm Valley, she is preceded in death by her husband James Gill and was the Loving daughter of Myrtle Compton, and Father Rolla Compton Senior, brother Rolla Compton Junior, and dear sister of Martha Boyd. She is lovingly survived by her daughter Rebecca Harber, her son in law, Hershel Harber, her beloved son Douglas Gill and her granddaughter, Misty Moore, whom she adored and called her prize.
We will never forget her, her memory is etched in our hearts forever, for she is a part of us and will never leave.
“Mother, your fingerprint, your handwriting, your impression of life. I know it is to be true, for I see it in the things I say and do. Oh how I resemble you, Your loving touch has left its mark. It has engraved its initials upon my heart. This love you gave me from the start. Will carry me all my life through. “
The highest tribute to my grandmother, Myrtle Compton, who instilled in me , her granddaughter, without knowing what would lie ahead, compassion and how to be a caretaker. She was a stronghold, a Godly influence over me in this process. Her compassion and love for her family, in sickness and in health and to take care of our own inspired me every step of the way. Her hands cupped over mine, her hymns, her prayers all led me through this journey. To my brother Doug, we did it our way. It was Mamas way, we made Mama proud and we did not waiver. Her legacy and love will never leave us.
A special thank you to the state of Florida who managed a long term care plan, VA aid and attendance, My Choice House calls. Also to every private sitter we had through the years that made home health care a success for us.
