Edwin Laverne Simmons, 80 of Hilliard passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2008 in Shand's Jacksonville.
He was born to Joseph Benjamin and Clyde Lois Anderson Simmons on December 3, 1928 in Jacksonville, Fl. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
Mr. Simmons is survived by his wife: Betty of Hilliard, Fl.; 3-children: David Wayne Simmons of South Lyons, MI.; Julia Lynn Cox of Hilliard, Fl.; Deborah Ann Sheffield of Madison, Fl.; 5-grandchildren: Sara Ashely Harbottle of Jackson, MI.; Stephanie Marie Oakie of Hoboken, Ga.; Karina Dawn Cox of Folkston, Ga.; Jillian Renee Sheffield of Jacksonville, Fl.; Victoria Rose Cox of Hilliard, Fl.; 6-great-grandchildren: Dalton Kristopher Oakie, Lyndsey Marie Oakie, Layla Harbottle , Jada Marie Crews, Julius Ivan Harbottle and Kaleigh Lynn Oakie.
The family will receive friends Friday, December 26, 2008 from 6 until 8 PM at Shepard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 10:00 AM in the funeral home Chapel with David Simmons, Elder Ronald Jones and Robert Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Pigeon Creek Cemetery.
