Doyle C. Lewis, 77, of Folkston, passed away Tuesday, May 4 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born in Colquitt County, Georgia to the late Clifford Henry and Bertha Lee Sellers Lewis. Mr. Lewis was a member of the First Baptist Church of Folkston where he served as a Deacon. He was the owner, editor and publisher of the Charlton County Herald for over 34 years. He was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years: Mary Lou Lewis; 2-Children: James (Sarah) Lewis and Melody (Steven) Pullin; his emotionally adopted children: Mike & Suraya Walker; his grandchildren: Anna (Craig) Love, Jay Lewis, Evan Lewis, Janet Lewis, Bill Pullin, Mary Leighton Pullin, David Pullin, John Pullin, Kyle Walker, and Elise Walker; a Great Grandchild: Avalynn Love; and a Sister: Carolyn Schultz. He was preceded in death by 4-Siblings: Doris Wildes, Maxine Spivey, Laverne Clark, and Gerald Lewis.
The family will receive friends Thursday, May 6 at Shepard Funeral Home in Folkston, Georgia from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held Friday May 7 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Folkston with Rev. Randy Jacoby and Rev. Gene McCullough officiating, Burial will follow in Pineview Cemetery.
