Douglas S. Wellner, Sr., 78 of St. George passed away December 6, 2010 at his residence.
He was born January 11, 1932 in Gorman, South Dakota to Henry C. and Ardeena Rose Siebrasse Wellner. Mr. Wellner served his country in the United States Navy and also the National Guard. He retired as a Claims Adjuster for Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company with 28 years of service in 1987. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed baseball, Country Music and dancing and loved to cook. He also enjoyed gardening and working outside.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years: Wilma J. Smith Wellner of St. George; a Son: Douglas S. Wellner, Jr. wife-Guaria of St. George; Two Daughters: Debbie A. Cantillor(Ringo) of Jacksonville, Florida; Tina Ferrone(Harry) of Jacksonville, Florida; Six Grandchildren: Marcella Bardin(Josh), Douglas S. Wellner, III (Ashley) , William Scott Wellner, Matthew Walker Wellner, Jennifer Marie Riveria, Christopher A. Cantillo; One Great-Grandchild; Jules Riveria; Five Sisters: Virginia Horton; Eleen Morrison, Peggy Steele(CB), Monie Lewis, and Audrey Doggett, Several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister: Faye Ardis Wellner.
The family will receive friends Friday, December 10, 2010 in the Chapel of Shepard Funeral home from 1:00 until 2:00 PM. The family request memorial contributions be made to hospice of The Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, Georgia 31525. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM, with Bill Conner will officiating. Memorialization will be by Cremation.
