Delia Strickland Hickox, 95, of Folkston, GA passed away March 11, 2015. She was born August 11, 1919 in Hickox, Georgia to the late Walter Strickland and Rachel Crews Strickland. She was a charter member of the Folkston Assembly of God where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was a member of the Folkston Church of God. She retired from the Charlton County Board of Education as a Lunchroom Assistant after over 20 years of service. After retiring, she still enjoyed cooking and taking meals to homebound and sick people in the community.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years: James Donald “J.D.” Hickox; a daughter: Betty Taylor and son- in-law: Owen Taylor.
She is survived by her 3-daughters: Faye (George) Harden, Lynette (Wayne) Bryant, and Alice (Don) Thompson; Grandchildren: Dale Taylor, Gayle Acree, Glenda Proctor, Michael Taylor, Devon Harden & Twylia Harden; Dana Nelms, Kevin Bryant & Russ Thompson; Three honorary grandchildren: Hannah, Donovan and Donna; Brothers: Marvin Strickland & W.L. Strickland; Sisters: Sarah Harrell & Viola Johnson; 14-Great Grandchildren and 11-Great Great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday, March 13 at the Folkston Church of God from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held at the church Saturday, March 14 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Sonny Hickox and Rev. Rob Gillis officiating. Burial will follow in Sardis Cemetery.
