Daniel “Danny” Richard Dinkins, Sr., 84, of Homeland, GA passed away Sunday, September 24, 2017 at his residence. He was born April 29, 1933 to the late Daniel Robert Dinkins and Julia Celeste Bennett Dinkins. Mr. Dinkins graduated from Charlton Co. High School in 1950. He then served in the United States Marine Corps from 1952-1953. On November 1, 1951, Mr. Dinkins married Faye Drury of Woodbine, GA. The couple lived in Blackshear for several years where Danny worked in the insurance business. Upon returning to Charlton County in 1951, he then went to work in the auto parts retail business.
In 1959, Mr. Dinkins moved his family to St. Mary’s, GA where he opened his own auto parts business, St. Mary’s Parts and Supply. Over the next 18 years, Danny ran a successful business, raised 4 children and was an active member of the Lions Club, an avid motorcyclist, small airplane pilot and member of the Methodist Church.
In 1976, Mr. Dinkins came home to Charlton County. He owned Big A Auto Parts before obtaining his real estate license and opened Charlton Realty. He was a member of the Gideon’s and a deacon at Philadelphia Free Will Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years: Faye Drury Dinkins; 2-sons: Daniel R. “Rick” Dinkins (Debbie) and Robert D. “Bobby” Dinkins (Donna); 2-daighters: Lisa Dinkins Morris (Randal) and Celeste Veree McCullough (Scott); 5-Grandchildren: Tripp & Heather Dinkins, Deanna & Alex Blount, Jason & Christina Kelley, Charlie & Shelby McCullough and Lene’ & Derrick Bauder; 2-brothers: Robert Dinkins (Yvonne) and Dell Dinkins (Evelynn); 2-sisters: Annette Geiger (Bert) and Goldie McCullough (Robert) ; 15-Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 27 at Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home from 6-8 PM. Services will be held Thursday, September 28 at 11:00 AM at Philadelphia Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Stephen Jackson and Rev. Ron Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in Homeland Cemetery with military honors.
