Chief George Marcus Coleman, Jr., age 59, of Douglasville, GA passed away Monday, September 6, 2010. He was born December 11, 1950, in Jacksonville, FL, son of the late George and Cornelia Merlyn Coleman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Matthew Coleman. He was a devoted father, who loved his wife, family and grandchildren. He was a Distinguished Alumni at Georgia State University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Studies and was a graduate of the FBI National Academy. Chief Coleman served as the Fulton County Chief of Police and retired after 35 years of service. After retiring from Fulton County, he became the Vice President of Operations at Homeland Self Storage. He was a gun collector and enjoyed boating. Chief Coleman was an avid University of Georgia and Charlton County High School football fan. He was Methodist by faith.
He is survived by his wife, Katurah Coleman of Douglasville; sons, Garrin M. Coleman and his wife Nicole of Canton, Thomas D. Jesse of San Antonio, TX, Christopher P. Parker and his wife Kristi of Douglasville; daughter, Ginger M. Coleman-Salman and her husband John-Paul of Douglasville; grandchildren, Kayla and Christopher Parker, Garrison M. and Gabriel M. Coleman, Heidi Cornelia Salman; step-father, Monroe Bo Todd of Folkston, GA; a host of friends and other family members; and his beloved granddog, Sergeant.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be Thursday, September 9, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Midway Macedonia Baptist Church with Monsignor Edward Dillon officiating. Mr. Coleman will lie in state at the church from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Interment will be in Folkston Cemetery in Folkston, GA.
