Catherine Shuman

Mary Catherine Shuman, 38, of Folkston, GA passed away Wednesday, August 11 in St. Marys, GA.  She was born May 26, 1983 in Jacksonville, FL to the late J.M. Shuman and Barbara Ann Chancey Shuman.  Catherine enjoyed vacations to the lake, afternoon and weekend  swims with the babies, reading books and all holidays. Pokémon was one of her favorite video games- playing with the kids and showing off her skills. Sunday afternoon family dinners were a tradition with a swim in the summer months. She was the family pastry chef, baking the family favorite recipe cakes each holiday.

Her teaching career began at Krayons Academy.  In 2017 she took a 5th grade position at Wacona

Elementary School where she taught Science and Social Studies. She will be remembered as an enthusiastic team player who made learning science fun for her students. She also coached the award-winning  Wacona Science Olympiad team!

She is survived by an uncle:  Warren L. Chancey, Jr. and an aunt:  Polly Chancey; cousins:  Carla Lett, Leeann (Jim) Petty, Debra (Bill) Shepherd, Bonnie Chancey Hayes and Julie Chancey Cardozo, Lindsey (Ryan) Mantz, Jade (Trevor) Olinto, Sabrina (John) Dadswell, Kelci (Jason) King, Dustin (Brittney) Shepherd and Ireland Hayes; and her very special little cousins:  Guiliana Olinto, Brady & Laine Mantz, Brady & Reagan Dadswell and Jase King.

Memorialization will be by cremation.  A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, September 18 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home.
