Blanche Altman Johns Palmer, 89, of Folkston, passed away Monday June 30 at her residence following a lengthy illness. She was a native and life long resident of Charlton County. She was a member of Philadelphia Free Will Baptist Church in Folkston where she was one of the oldest living members. She was also a member of the Folkston Eastern Star and a founding member of the Ladies Auxillary. She was a dedicated military wife supporting two husbands that served in the Military. Mr. WO Johns served in the US Air Force during WW II, and Korea, and Mr. Bill Palmer served in the US Navy during Korea. She was the daughter of the late S.M. Altman, Sr., and the late Zada Jane Mizell Altman. She was preceded in death by 3-husbands: Glen Courson, W.O. Johns, and Bill Palmer; a sister: Beulah Crews; a brother: S.M. Altman, Jr.; a son-in-law: D.B. Sikes; and a granddaughter: Faith Campbell. She and her sister, Beulah, were avid Charlton County Indian Fans.
She is survived by her children: Glenda Mantz of Folkston, Delorise Sikes of Hilliard, Zada (Russell) Murray, of Folkston and Walter (Kelly) Johns of Waynesville; 13-Grandchildren; 20-Great Grandchildren and 9-Great Great Grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday July 2 at Shepard Funeral Home beginning at 6:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Thursday July 3 at 3:00 PM at Philadelphia Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Kieth Lloyd and Rev. Parnell Aldridge officiating. Burial will follow in Sardis Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Phil Lipsett, Bobby Gamble, Marvin Lloyd, Allen Lloyd, Eric Stewart, and Mickey Dickerson.
