Betsy was born on October 20, 1940, in Warwick, Rhode Island, to John W. Lord and Loretta Hall Lang. As a teenager, she moved with her family to Camden County, Georgia, where she met the love of her life, Ralph C. Marr. They married on January 12, 1958, and shared a deep love that endured through the years. Together, they raised four children and built a family that was the center of Betsy’s world.
Betsy worked in various local businesses throughout her life, including the Gilman Paper Company, Kraft Bag Division, the Folkston Pants Factory, and as a founding employee of the Mom & Pop Stores, where she rose from clerk to Operations Manager.
However, her greatest passion was always her family. As a devoted wife, mother, and later, Nanny, Betsy cherished every moment spent surrounded by loved ones. She loved to gather the entire family for holidays, special occasions, or just because. These gatherings were filled with laughter, delicious food, and the joy of watching her grandchildren play. Betsy was always ready for adventure, particularly enjoying trips with her daughters and granddaughters.
Known for her warmth, kindness, and infectious smile, Betsy always made those around her feel loved and welcome. She greeted everyone with a hug and a kiss, and made sure to send them off with words of love. Her heart was as big as her family, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Betsy was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Ralph Jr.; her brothers, John Lord and Richard Lang; her sister, Mary Ann Davis; and her granddaughters, Jessica Williams Walborn and Lisa Muse.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Ralph C. Marr; her daughters Gloria Faye Muse, Donna Sue Marr, Janice Lynn Kosik (Dennis), and son Ralph W. Marr (Stephanie); her brother Paul Lang; her sisters Joyce Whittle (Jesse) and Mary Clark (Billy). Betsy is also survived by her grandchildren: Allison Krause (Chase), Joshua Muse (Amanda), Chrissie Walker (Michael), Melinda Chester (Ahmed), Amber Cash (Robert), Samantha Gibson (Michael), Ivy Daniels (Paul), and Mallory Rutledge (Matthew); 25 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Betsy will be remembered for the boundless love she gave to her family and friends, her spirit of adventure, and her generous heart. She has left behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will continue to bring comfort to her family for years to come.
