Albert Theodore Stevens, Jr., 85, of Folkston, GA passed away at his home on Monday, November 27, 2023. He was born in Bainbridge, GA on November 4, 1938, to the late Albert Theodore Stevens, Sr. and Gladys Batterson Stevens. Al grew up in Bainbridge, GA. He loved basketball and played while at Valdosta State. His first teaching job was in Cleveland, GA. He then taught English and coached basketball at Charlton County. After teaching and coaching, he moved to Lakeland where he became principal at Lanier County and then later principal at Pelham. After being in the school system for many years, Al became a salesperson for Gilman Lumber Company in 1979, where he worked until retirement. Al was one of those people who concentrated on one hobby at a time. Some of his favorites over the years included bass fishing, golf, furniture making, hunting doves and ducks, and carving duck decoys.
He is survived by his wife; Janice Kish Stevens, 5-children; Jamie S. Prosser, Jill (Wade) Kelly, Gwen (Blake) Belue, Allison (Kenny) Tucker, and Morgan Stevens, 10-grandchildren; Meredith (Rupert) Cowell, Trey (Stephanie) Kelly, Amanda (Tyson) Wachenheim, Lance Belue, Hunter Belue, Matthew Prosser, Thomas Prosser, Colby Bryant, Chloe Bryant, and Remington Tucker, and numerous great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Pineview Cemetery with Pastor Bruce Morgan officiating. Pallbearers will be Terry Pickren, Jon Pruden, Ronnie Cannon, Chip Davis, Bill Gowen, John Schoer, Blake Belue, and Kenny Tucker.
